Please Note ; joining us in London Muslims Umrah Trip provide you a proper practical guide , demostration & help you

all the umrah performance

                                  INTENTION

The physical and spiritual activities that form the process of Umrah can be classified into four broad activities viz.

  • Niyyah - Intention
  • Tawaf , Circum-ambulating the Kaâ'ba
  • Saâ'ee â ,i.e To and fro movement between the hills of Safa and Marwah
  • Halq or Qasr  ,Shaving/Trimming the head.

Lets now understand each of the above in sufficient detail.

Intention/Niyyah

  • Perform Ablution (Wudhu) or take bath (Ghusl).
  • Put on the two white sheets of the Ihram garments. For women, there is no specific garment or colour; ordinary cloak/abaya etc. is sufficient.
  • Perform two Rakats of Ihram (Sunnah). Recite Surah Kaafirun (Qul Yaa Ayyuhal Kaafiroon) in the first Rakat and Surah Ikhlas (Qul Huwallaahu Ahad) in the second Rakat.
  • Then remove the Prayer cap (Men should not cover their head in the state of Ihram).
  • Make Intention (Niyyah) of Umrah
  • Lets now understand each of the above in sufficient detail.

(O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.)

  • Intention/Niyyah, which is an obligation, can be made at home or during the journey, but care must be taken to make the intention before crossing the boundaries of Miqat.
  • Since the boundaries of Miqat are widespread, if you are taking a flight bound to Jeddah, you will cross the boundaries of Miqat whilst in the flight itself. Thus, if you are not careful to make intention in the flight before entering the Miqat, you will end up having to travel to the nearest Miqat point on landing in Jeddah and make the intention and start for Umrah from there. Thus, be very careful about making the intention before crossing the boundaries of Miqat, wherever you are making the journey from.
  • If you plan to land in Madina, then make the intention at Zul Hulaifah while going to Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
  • People making the intention from their homes do not have the concern of being vigilant of the Miqat points.
  • If you are already in Makkah Al-Mukarramah and intend to do Umrah, then go to the closest Miqat Point i.e. Tanâ'eem (Masjid Aisha) and adorn/assume Ihram.
  • Pilgrims coming from other directions should adorn/assume Ihram on their respective Miqat points.
  • Recite the complete Talbiyah as following, once audibly. Women should recite in a low voice.

Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayka La Shareekalaka Labbayk, Innal Hamda Wanneâ??mata Lakawal Mulk, Laa Shareekalak

Translation : (Here I am O Allah! Here I am, Here I am No partner do you have Here I am, Truly the praise and the favour is Yours and the dominion; No partner do You have)

Keep reciting Talbiyah until you see Holy Kaa'bah.

Entering the Masjid Al-Haram

  • While entering the Masjid Al-Haram put your right foot in the Masjid and recite the following duâ:

Bismillahi wasSalahuwassalamu Ala Rasulillahi Allahummaftahli Abwaba rahmatika

Translation : (In the name of Allah and Salahand Salam upon the messenger of Allah (PBUH), O Allah! Open to me the gates of Your Mercy)

  • While entering into Masjid Al-Haram, it is Mustahabb to make Niyyah:
  • "O Allah! I make Niyyah for Itiqaf or the period I am in Masjid Al-Haram.
  • And on seeing the Holy Kaâ'ba recite the following:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La Ilaha Illallahu WaAllahu Akbar Allahu Akbar walillaahil hamd

Translation : Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, there is none worthy of worship except Allah and Allah is the greatest and to Allah is all praise.

  • And then recite the following duâ as well

Translation "O Allah! You alone are the Giver of Peace, and Peace comes only from You. O our Rabb! Keep us in peace.

Also this dua

Translation "O Allah! Increase the exaltation, the veneration and the awe of this House and he, who pays due regard and respect to this House, among the people who perform its Hajj and Umrah, also increase his nobility, greatness, honor, and goodness.

  • Remember this is the place and time when Duâ is accepted. It is in the hadith that when a Muslim casts his/her first glance at Baitullah, his Duâ is accepted. He should earnestly request Allah s.w.t. that he may die a Muslim, that he may be granted Firdaus (the highest stage of Paradise)  without reckoning, and that he may follow Shariah in every respect. Besides, he can ask for anything he likes. A Duâa mentioned in Hadith is reproduced below:

Translation "I seek the protection of the Rabb (The Sustainer) of the House, from kufr, poverty, the narrowness of chest and chastisement of the grave.

On seeing the Baitullah first, a person should raise hands for Duâ. It is Mustahabb to make Duâ while standing.

Tawaf And Saae

Tawaf :

  • Wudhu is essential during Tawaf. Perform Wudhu anew if it is nullified before completing first four circuits (circles around the Kaâ'ba), and start performing Tawaf anew. But if Wudhu is nullified after first four circuits, resume Tawaf from where you had discontinued. Alternatively, you can also begin a new Tawaf.
  • Enter the Masjid Al-Haram through Bab Al-Salam (if possible). Recite supplications as discussed in the above topic "Entering the Masjid Al-Haramâ''

Note: Tahiyyatul-Masjid is not to be performed when intending to perform Tawaf.

  • Idhtibaa: Men to do Idhtibaaâ'' i.e. to take Ihram sheet under the right armpit and cover left shoulder.
  • Niyyah/Intention :Stand facing Hajr Al-Aswad in such a way that the Hajr Al-Aswad remains to your right side (one step away from the imaginary line joining the Hajr Al-Aswad and the green light, positioned in the building for this purpose)
  • Make the Niyyah for Tawaf of Umrah. (It is Wajib/compulsory)

Transliteration: Allahumma Innee ureedu Tawafa Baitikal Harami Fayassirhu Li Wata Qabbal Minni

(O Allah, I am making the intention of Tawaf of Kaâ??ba, make it easy for me and accept it from me)

Isteqbal Al-Kaâ'bah:

This is done only once at the beginning of Tawaf. Stand in front of Hajr Al-Aswad facing towards it, recite the below

Takbirâh while raising your hands up till your earlobes, palms facing Hajr Al-Aswad.

"Allahu Akbar ''

Istilaam:

Raise your hands up, till your chest, palms facing Hajr Al-Aswad, recite the below dua and then push hands out towards Hajr Al-Aswad, pull back and kiss your palms.

"Bismillahi Allahu Akbar Walillahil Hamdâ''

  • Proceed with the Tawaf; men should perform ramal (meaning brisk-walking, chest out; soldier-like march) for first 3 circuits only; the rest of the 4 circuits of Tawaf should be completed in a normal way. Women should not to do the act of Ramal and should perform Tawaf at a normal pace.
  • Do not turn the chest or back towards Kaâ'bah in Tawaf at any time except during Istilaam; feet must be in the direction of Tawaf even at this time.
  • If possible, slightly touch Rukn Al-Yamani (corner before Hajr Al-Aswad) with your right hand during Tawaf; if not possible due to a huge crowd, do not do anything else (like a waving action, etc.) but proceed on as normal. It is not permissible to touch Rukn Al-Yamani in the state of Ihram because it is perfumed. Recite the following while in between Rukn Al-Yamani and Hajr Al-Aswad.

"O Our Rabb (Sustainer)! Give to us in this world that which is best and in the Hereafter that which is best, and save us from the torment of the Hell, and let us be with the righteous in the Paradise. O Rabb of the worlds.

  • Now, stop at Hajr Al-Aswad, do Istilaam before every circuit and also upon completion of the last circuit (8 times).
  • Put back Ihram sheet on your shoulder, offer two Rakats Salah of Wajib (compulsory) of Tawaf (however, care must be taken to observe if the time is makrooh for salaat. If so, the salaat should be delayed) preferably at Station of Ibrahim (PBUH) or elsewhere in the Haram.
  • If possible, make Du'a at Multazam. (or anywhere nearby)
  • Then proceed to drink Zam-Zam; drink zam-zam in abundance; recite the applicable masnoon duâ'a and any other Duâas.
  • Come in front of Hajr Al-Aswad and do Istilaam again. This is the 9th Istilaam.

Verily! As-Safa and al-Marwah are of the Symbols of Allah. So it is not a sin on him who performs Hajj or 'Umrah of the House to perform the Tawaf between them. And whoever does good voluntarily, then verily, Allah is All-Recognizer, All-Knower.

[Al-Quran]

  • Proceed to Safa to begin Sa'ee. Climb up to the outcrop of rocks. Recite Masnoon Duâas. Make Niyyah for Sa'ee of Umrah.

O Allah! I am making an intention of Saâee between Safa & Marwah; make it easy for me and accept it from me.

  • Proceed for Sa'ee from Safa to Marwah. This is one circuit. The trip from Marwah to Safa will form the second circuit. In this way complete 7 circuits. Thus, the end point of your Sa'ee will be Marwah.
  • At the place between the two green fluorescent lights known as Milain-Akhdarain men are to jog at a moderate pace. Women should continue at their normal pace.
  • At Marwah, climb up to the outcrop of rocks. Then make Duâa in abundance, as long as possible.
  • After completing the seven circuits of Sa'ee in this manner, perform two Rakats nafl of Sa'ee anywhere in Masjid Al-Haram if possible.

Halq or Qasr

In order to release yourself from the state of Ihram, make Halq (shaving hair on the head) or make Qasr ( cut hair short to an equal level, all around the head). Even bald people are required to pass the blade once over the head once. Women should cut a few centimetres of hair (hair curled around finger) at the end of their hair plaits. Restrictions of Ihram are over now.

2 -Ibne Masood (RA) said that Prophet (pbuh ) said, ‘’Follow up the Hajj and Umrah, because they certainly remove poverty and sins as fire separates the impurities from iron, gold and silver’’ . (Tirmidhi, Ibne Khuzaimah, Ibne Hibbaan)

4 -Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates that Prophet (pbuh ) said, ‘’The Jihad of the elderly, weak and the woman is undertaking the Hajj and Umrah.’’ (Nasaai)

5 -Umar bin Abasa (RA) relates that Prophet (pbuh ) said, ‘’Two actions are considered to be the most virtuous of actions, unless if someone performs them in the same way. They are an accepted Hajj and an accepted Umrah.’’

6 -Ibne Umar (RA) narrates that Prophet (pbuh ) said, ‘’The warrior in the cause of Allah, the pilgrim and the one who is performing Umrah are all the delegation of Allah tala. He called them and they responded and they will ask of His bestowals and He will give it to them.’’ (Ibne Majah, Ibne Hibbaan)

7 -Ibne Abbas (RA) relates that Prophet (pbuh ) said, ‘’Umrah performed in the month of Ramadhaan will equal (in rewards) to that of Hajj or Hajj performed with Me (SAW).’’ (Bukhari, Muslim)

8 -Umme Ma'qal (RA) narrates that said, ‘’O Nabi of Allah, I am a very old and sickly lady. Is there any action that I can do which will be sufficient for my Hajj? Nabi (SAW) told her,’’Umrah performed in the month of Ramadhaan equals Hajj.’’ (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)

9 -Aisha (RA) said that Nabi (SAW) said, ‘’Whoever leaves his home only for the purpose of Hajj or Umrah and he dies, nothing will be presented to him nor will he have any accountability on the day of Reckoning and it will be said to him, enter into Jannah.’’ (Tabraani Baihaqi)

10 -Anas bin Maalik (RA) said, ‘’The pilgrims and those who perform Umrah are the delegation of Allah. He will give them whatever they ask for, answer their supplications and He will give them better than what they spend. Every Dirham will be multiplied by a thousand. (Baihaqi)

Whatever they ask for, they will be granted. Whatever supplication they make, it will be answered and whatever they spend, they will be given better in return. I take an oath in the name of Allah, no person says Allahu Akbar on a flat piece of land or says Laa Ilaaha Illallahu on a raised piece of ground except that the grains of sand in front of him says the same words as he had said (Allahu Akbar and Laa Ilaaha Illallah. (Baihaqi)

                              FiQh Of Umrah ...

In Arabic, Umrah means "to visit a populated places''. Umrah is also called Hajj Al-Asghar i.e. "the small Hajj''. It is Sunnat Al-Muakkada h to perform Umrah once in a lifetime. Umrah can be performed throughout the year except during the five days of Hajj.

                                                                                           Quranic Verse About Umrah

وَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ

And Accomplish the Hajj and Umrah for Allah. (The Holy Quran 2:196)

Hadhrat Abu Hurairah (r.a.) narrated that Prophet Muhammad ( Pbuh) said Umrah becomes an atonement for the sins                                                                        between one and the next Umrah. (Bukhari, Muslim)

   Time Of Umrah

Pilgrims who intend to perform umrah of Hajj Al-Tamattu should complete it before 8thZul-Hijjah, the twelfth month of Islamic calendar.

Types of Umrah

There are two types of Umrah, depending on whether one wishes to combine the Umrah with Hajj.

1 - Umrah Al-Mufradh   [ Indepemdant of hajj ]

2-Umrah Al-tamattu[ in Conjunction With Hajj ]

There is no difference in the process of Umrah Al-Mufradah and Umrah Al-Tamattu. However, Umrah Al-Mufradah is performed throughout the year  except for the days of Hajj whereas Umrah Al-Tamattu is performed only during the days of Hajj and that too before the commencement of Hajj rituals i.e. before 8th Zul-Hijjah.

4Hajj Al-Tamattu' involves performing Umrah and then Hajj, with one Ihram for each. This form of Hajj is considered the best of the three forms of Hajj. It is the one that the Prophet Muhammad ( Pbuh) urged his followers to perform and is the one adopted by most pilgrims from overseas.

Fard & Wajib Acts of Umrah

I. There are two acts that are Fardh in Umrah

  • Intention/Niyyah: Assume the Ihram clothing, make  intention and recite Talbiyah.
  • Perform Tawaf of Holy Kaa'ba.

II. And there are two acts that are Wajib in Umrah

  • Perform Saâ'ee between Safa and Marwah Hills.
  • Halq i.e. shaving head or Qasr i.e. trimming/cutting hair equally on all sides.

Note: If a  fardh is missed,  umrah is not accepted whereas if a wajib is missed, umrah can be completed by performing a  damm (penalty) as an expiation ( kaffarah) for the mistake.

When  some one decides to perform Umrah, then they should assume the Ihram of Umrah before entering the Miqat. If one is  travelling by plane and is not certain about the exact time when one will pass the Miqat or one fears that one may pass over it without knowing, then it is better to wear the Ihram before boarding the plane.

Please note that Ihram is not simply the act of wearing two towels; it is a state or condition in which a Pilgrim enters and â?? immediately â?? certain rules get imposed on him/her.

Prohibitions, in the state of Ihram.

  • Clipping (trimming) the nails.
  • Removing hair (even unintentionally).
  • Using fragrance; Attar, Deodorant, Perfume, Scent, Soap, Toothpaste etc. Do not even touch Hajr  Al-Aswad ,  Multazam , Cover of Kaâ??ba because they are perfumed.
  • Covering the face or head; be careful not to cover them while sleeping (women, however, should cover their head. Women are allowed to use a cap-like headgear which will keep face-veil away from the face, yet keep the face concealed from the gazes of  non mahram.)
  • Do not enter into sexual relations with your spouse. Avoid suggestive and provocative talk or gestures and remain focused on Hajj.
  • Men should not wear sewn garments and footwear that covers the upper section of the foot.
  • Do not kill an animal of any kind for any reason, unless it poses a danger to you and to the others.

Penalty or Damm

Penalty or Damm becomes compulsory only for breaking Ihram rules or for omitting a Wajib act. There are varying degrees of penalties for various contraventions. Each of the above prohibitions has to be expiated by means of offering a  damm. For details, Please refer Masaâ'il books or Scholars

Some suggestions to take note of, while beginning the pilgrimage

  • Intention/Niyyah, which is an obligation, can be made at home or during the journey, but care must be taken to follow the acts that comprise of "intentionâ? before crossing the boundaries of Miqat.
  • When you leave your house, recite the following Duâa Transliteration: Bismillahi Tawakkaltu Alallah In the Name of Allah, I have placed my trust in Allah.
  • On the eve of the journey, it is recommended to make lots of repentance for all the misdeeds so you travel not just with clean clothes but also a clean heart.
  • Join your group at their specified time if you are  travelling with them.
  • As you board the Plane, recite the following Duâa: Transliteration: Subhanallazi Sakkharalana Haza Wama Kunna Lahu Mukhrineen Wa Inna Ila Rabbina Lamunkhalibun Glory be to the one who has subjugated this for us whereas we were not able to subjugate it on our own. And we will certainly be returning to our Lord. [Al-Quran]
  • For journey by water, following Dua should be recited Transliteration: Bismillahi Majraiha Wamursaha Inna Rabbi Laghafoorurraheem He (NÅ«H) said, "Embark it. With the name of  Allah it sails and anchors. Surely, my Lord is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful. [Al-Quran 11:41]
  • Make sure the food served to you on the plane is indeed Halal.
  • Be careful about the times of Salah during the flight, so you don't miss the prayers, especially if you are flying eastward to reach Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
  • Please uphold the virtues of Sabr (patience) and Taqwa (abstinence from sin) during this journey by safeguarding gaze, thoughts and forgiving others for any mistakes.
  • Please value time. That's the most important of all  advices one can follow. Scheduling time to avoid wastage, properly allocating it according to the priority of each  ibadah and trying to gain maximum virtues out of the trip is very important.
  • Try your best to serve, assist and  honour fellow Hajis. Make Salaam, smile at fellow hajis, shake hands and try to be of help to people, whenever possible.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best
