Realise The Purpose of Fasting
O you who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you, so that you may be God-fearing,
“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], ‘Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.’” (Qur’an, Surah Fussilat, 41:30)
“Indeed, those who have said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’, and then remained on a right course - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (Qur’an, Surah al-Ahqaf, 46:13)
“Say, O [Muhammad], ‘I am only a man like you to whom it has been revealed that your god is but one God; so take a straight course to Him (be steadfast) and seek His forgiveness.’ And woe to those who associate others with Allah.” (Qur’an, Surah Fussilat, 41:6)
What is istiqamah?
Istiqamah (استقامة) is an arabic word which is derived from the verb “Istaqaama” (إِسْتَقَامَ) meaning: to be straight, to be consistent. One who is consistent or upon consistency is called al mustaqim (المُسْتَقِيمَ). Such is mentioned in Surah Al Fatiha:
“Guide us to thestraight path1(6) The path of those whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger (i.e. those whose intentions are perverted: they know the truth, yet do not follow it), nor of those who went astray (i.e. those who have lost the (true) knowledge, so they wander in error, and are not guided to the truth.(7)”
Note :
HE wordistiqamahcomes from the Arabic root word قام(qaama)which means to rise, to stand upright. The word مستقيم (mustaqeem) is derived from the same root.
From the perspective of Shari’ah, it means “to remain consistent on the path you are in, no matter what happens.”
It is a quality that we continuously strive to attain in order to remain steadfast in deen, although we may fail many times in the process. It is one of the tools to attain the pleasure of Allah ﷻ and it strengthens our belief in Allah ﷻ.

Taqwa Meaning :
Often, it is translated as “Fear of God”, and while fearing Allah is part of Taqwa, its meaning is deeper than this.
The linguistic meaning of Taqwa is “a shield or protective barrier”. It is to protect oneself from what angers Allah. Some scholars define Taqwa as placing a protective barrier between yourself and Allah’s punishment. Taqwa also means doing that which Allah has enjoined and avoiding that which He has forbidden.
Ibn Abbas said about,
(guidance for theMuttaqin) that it means,
"They are the believers who avoidShirkwith Allah and who work in His obedience."
Ibn Abbas also said thatAl-Muttaqinmeans,
"Those who fear Allah's punishment, which would result if they abandoned the true guidance that they recognize and know. They also hope in Allah's mercy by believing in what He revealed."

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will be closed and nobody will enter through it."

“Hazrat Salman al-Farsira narrated that Allah’s Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said in a sermon, which he delivered to them on the last day of Sha‘ban:
“‘A great month, a blessed month, a month containing a night which is better than a thousand months has approached you people. Allah has appointed the observance of fasting during it as an obligatory duty, and the passing of its night in prayer as a voluntary practice.
“‘If someone draws near to Allah during it with a normal good act, he will be like one who fulfils an obligatory duty in another month, and he who fulfils an obligatory duty in it will be like one who fulfils seventy obligatory duties in another month.
“‘It is the month of endurance, and the reward of endurance is Paradise. It is the month of sympathy mutual consolation and a month in which the believer’s provisions are increased. If someone gives one who has been fasting something with which to break his fast, it will provide forgiveness of his sins and save him from Hell, and he will have a reward equal to his without his reward being diminished in any respect.’
“Some of them remarked to God’s Messenger that they did not all have the means to give [food] to the one who had been fasting with which to break his fast, and he replied, ‘God gives this reward to him who gives one who has been fasting some milk mixed with water, or a date, or a drink of water with which to break his fast and anyone who gives a full meal to one who has been fasting will be given a drink from my river [Hawz al-Kauthar, River of abundance] by Allah and will not thirst till he enters Paradise.’
“‘It is a month whose beginning is mercy, whose middle is forgiveness, and whose end is salvation from Hell. If anyone makes things easy for His slave during it, God will forgive him and free him from Hell.’” (Mishkat al-Masabih, The Book of Fasting)
“O Allah , bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban and bring us to Ramadan.”

Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, said: Fast (is exclusively) meant for Me and I would give its reward. There are two (occasions) of joy for the observer of fast. He feels joy when he breaks the fast and he is happy when he meets Allah. By Allah in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.
